Sherylle Mills Englander is the Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives and Operations at the California Nanosystems Institute at UC Santa Barbara, where she is responsible for the ideation, management and execution of CNSI’s strategic initiatives and center level projects, with an emphasis on the development and implementation of a comprehensive array of programs that focus on innovation and entrepreneurship (with a focus on supporting UCSB’s tech-based startup companies) and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Prior to joining CNSI, Ms. Englander was the Director of the Office of Technology & Industry Alliances (“TIA”) at UCSB, where she managed intellectual property licensing and research agreements with the for-profit sector. During her tenure at TIA, the UCSB intellectual property portfolio grew by 55%, with over 600 active inventions and copyrighted software. Prior to her tenure at UCSB, Ms. Englander served as an intellectual property license negotiator at the Smithsonian Institution and as an entertainment litigation attorney at the law firms of Katten Muchin Zavis & Weitzman and Belin Rawlings & Badal. Ms. Englander holds a juris doctorate from the University ofCalifornia, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law and a Bachelors of Music from the Eastman School of Music.
